Voluntary Return Partner Meeting
On 13 December, IOM organized the annual partner meeting on ‘Voluntary Return’. This gathering is organized to inform the local partners on the trends and developments in the Voluntary Return programme. Additionally it is an opportunity for both partners and IOM to exchange ideas, thoughts and questions.
As 2016 marked the tenth anniversary of ‘Reintegration assistance’ in Belgium, meeting had a main focus on the reintegration component. This starting by presenting a retrospective on the changes that happened throughout the programme, as well as the latest projects and explaining why reintegration assistance can be considered as the most durable option when returning voluntarily to the country of origin.
IOM had the pleasure of inviting colleagues from Georgia, the Russian Federation and Armenia to the meeting in order to provide the participants with a concrete picture of the reintegration process. The afternoon session was organized in three working groups that exchanged with the colleagues from the before mentioned countries. Each group focused on job placement opportunities, but also tackled issues such as the implementation of micro businesses and the follow-up of vulnerable cases.
In the late afternoon, the participants had the opportunity to meet with an IOM colleague from Somalia, who gave all partners an insight on the current overall situation in the country and the state of play of assisted voluntary returns to Somalia.
