IOM & UN at the 20 km of Brussels
Brussels - This year, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Country Office for Belgium and Luxembourg is again setting up an international team to participate in the 20 Km of Brussels, a major event in Belgium, taking you on a journey through Brussels’ most beautiful monuments and parks. Many of you have already shown interest in joining our team, so we hope to count on your presence again this year, and to welcome new motivated fellows!
It will take place on Sunday 29 May 2016 at 10 am, Parc Cinquantenaire/Jubelpark (meeting point will be at 8am in front of the Army Museum; practical details will be shared in due time with all participants).
The IOM’s international team will be the opportunity to partner with the United Nations Regional Information Centre (UNRIC) and UN agencies in order to jointly promote the world-wide campaign and platform,#Iamamigrant, inviting people around the world to challenge the current anti-migrant stereotypes and hate speech in politics and society. Throughout this campaign supported by Facebook, and our participation in the 20 Km of Brussels, we want to show that ‘Migration has a human face. Migration is diverse’. On the occasion of IOM’s 65th Anniversary, we plan this year to spotlight the people IOM has served in the past 65 years by bringing their personal stories to a wider public via the “I am a Migrant” online platform. In this regard, we count on your support to help us collecting and share their stories, which can be yours! You can check hereall kinds of stories that have already been published.
Even if you are not a top runner or if you come from abroad, you are welcome to join our team. You have the possibility to run or walk, at your own pace. You have 4 hours to finish the event.
For each participant registered under the IOM-UN team, IOM will offer a special designed dry-fit t-shirt, caps and wristbands.
Training sessions will be organized by IOM (including bottles of water) from 12.30 until 1.30 pm, every Friday, starting on Friday 11th of March in the Brussels’ Royal Park (a map of the meeting point is attached for your kind reference).
