Consular event for Accredited Consuls in Luxembourg

On 22 and 23 September 2016, Representatives of the IOM Country Office for Belgium and Luxembourg attended the “Consular event for Accredited Consuls in Luxembourg". This event was an occasion for Consuls to deepen their knowledge on the realities linked to (im)migration in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, where national and local activities were presented and different stakeholders got the chance to meet and exchange as well as visit a reception centre. Furthermore this meeting allowed the Luxembourgish authorities and stakeholders active on migration to exchange with Laura Palatini, the new Chief of Mission for the IOM Country Office for Belgium and Luxembourg.

Mr. Jean-Paul Reiter, the Director of Immigration, opened the event welcoming the attendees and giving a small introduction on how the Direction of Immigration of Luxembourg works. Several presentations by partners such as the Croix-Rouge Luxembourgeoise, and IOM were held.

During this event, IOM's main focus was success stories of migrants who returned voluntarily offering detailed explanations on the programme’s functioning and on the reintegration assistance provided in this framework.

On the second day the new System of European Video conferences (VCI) allowed easy communication between Consuls and nationals of the respective countries was be presented and a guided visit to a reception centre in Luxembourg followed.
